Every time I think that I don't care for Michael Kamen, I think about how varied, inventive, and whimsical this score is. It's always great fun and makes for an interesting listen. Some scores go right in one ear and out the other, but you can't say that about this because there's so much going on to pay attention to! The orchestration is particularly nice. Although I love it all, my particular favorite is track 7 "Vulcan and Venus", particularly the waltz section ("The Munchausen Waltz"). "The Balloon" is lovely too. The wide range of styles (comic, romantic, adventurous) is not always a combination that works, but here it does. My appreciation for this score continues to grow. Highly recommended. | |
