I MARRIED A WITCH (1942)

United Artists began production on I Married a Witch on 15 April 1942. The film was based on an incomplete Thorne Smith (creator of Topper) novel called The Passionate Witch (the story was completed by Norman Matson). Star Veronica Lake, playing the witch Jennifer, was at her career peak at this point. Fredric March was cast as Wallace Wooley after Joel McCrea declined, not wanting to pair up again with Lake. Also in the primary cast are the great Cecil Kellaway as Jennifer's warlock father Daniel, and Susan Hayward as Wallace Wooley's fiery fiancée Estelle.

Ann Carter (uncredited) appears only at the very end of the film as the daughter of Jennifer and Wallace Wooley. She was five years old at the time of filming. Audiences reportedly were taken aback at Ann's startling resemblance to Veronica Lake.
